SUGARCANE VALUE CHAIN

Introduction
The Sugarcane Value Chain is one of the new Value Chains in the Ministry, The main objective of Sugarcane Value Chain is to support the reduction of the current 1.05 million metric tons of sugar importation annually by supporting 3,398 sugarcane farmers in 22 states and FCT around the existing sugar mills with 5,600 tons of improved seed cane varieties for planting of sugarcane which will translate to about 3,400 direct jobs and 17,000 indirect jobs nationwide.

Project Components
The Project is being managed under two components which are:
Seed cane productionThe programme aims at utilizing 70% of its resources to support the industrial sugarcane farmers producing raw materials for the sugarcane mills, while 30% of its resources will be utilized to support production of improved chewing cane for household consumption.
 Processing Facilities Support
The value chain is supporting farmers to establish six 100TCD sugarcane processing mills through facility from Bank of Agriculture for efficient and profitable production of brown sugar and ethanol.
